Tinnevelly Senna

Senna (Cassia species) can be found in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Most varieties are indigenous to North, Central, and South America. The leaves and fruit are both medicinal. Senna has stimlulant laxative effects. Senna contains anthraquinones, including dianthrone that consists mostly of sennosides A and B and minor amounts of sennosides C and D. It also contains small amounts of free anthaquinones. Senna is most frequently used as a remedy for constipation. It may also be used for hemorrhoids, and in 'cleansing' or 'slimming' teas.
