Mucopolysaccharides

Mucopolysaccharides can be found in body cells, mucous secretions, and synovial fluids. It is a gel-like, carbohydrate substance. Mucopolysaccharides can be found in cartilage, aloe, green-lipped mussels, and other great sources. They are a source of chondroitin sulfate. Another name for mucopolysaccharides is glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Mucopolysaccharides contribute to longevity. They possess anti-inflammatory properties and other intrinsic properties. Mucopolysaccharides support the bones, joints, and cartilage.

Enzymes also exist to breakdown mucopolysaccharides. If this process does not occur, and a deficiency of the enzymes occurs, an over-abundance of mucopolysaccharides will result in mucopolysarrharidose (MPS). This can cause serious physical disorders.
