An interesting article in Nutrients 2013 Oct 31;5(11):4347-63 took a look at vitamin E and allergic lung inflammation in asthma. Recent studies have had conflicting results on the use of vitamin E with asthma. However this study took a look at two specific fractions of vitamin and their results.
What they found is that alpha-tocopherol in a purified natural form reduced lung inflammation. On the other hand gamma-tocopherol elevated lung inflammation. These studies were animal based studies.
This gives hope that perhaps vitamin E may have positive effects on the inflammatory pathways in lung disorders.
