We have been telling our patients for years that if they are taking statin medication they should be taking CoQ10. It is very rare that we find anyone’s doctor recommending CoQ10 with his or her statin therapy.
This recent article discusses how simvastatin (Zocor) is related to the development of diabetes. It then explains how CoQ10 helps to stop this development.
If you are taking statins, especially Zocor you need to be on CoQ10. A simple search reveals a variety of studies showing the benefit of CoQ10 and statin medication. Look at the list below.
This is only a partial list of the 222 I found during a public meds search. You will notice some the titles talk about cardiorespiratory fitness, myopathy, and hepatotoxicity combined with the discussion of diabetes and simvastatin.
The research is been there for years about myalgia and myopathy due to statins therapy helped by CoQ10. Being a chiropractor, many people come in with nebulous aches and pains. The first question we ask the patient is are you on any statin medications
In fact, just this year he knew patient came in with so many aches and pains that they had difficulty making it up and down the stairs. After a month of CoQ10 therapy, they are doing significantly better. Only to complain they do not want to spend the money on CoQ10.
Unfortunately, sometimes results do not convince people, as they are so addicted to their doctors’ opinion. If only their doctor were aware of the research and would prescribe CoQ10 with the statin medication.
One thing I feel confident about is if you are reading this blog, you know enough to take charge of your own health and not put everything in your doctor’s hands. Nothing is more important as your doctor is nothing more than a consultant for your healthcare.
I keep iterating this point about our healthcare. While we spend, more money than any other developed nation our healthcare and life span is surprisingly poor in comparison. If we depend on those would put us in this position we can expect poor results.
Sometimes you need to educate your healthcare provider in if you are in statins make sure he knows about CoQ10. Personally, I think it is malpractice to not prescribe CoQ10 to patients that you put on statins.
