Co-Q10 Lowers Cholesterol

Co-Q10 and its use in lowering cholesterol recently studied.

Co-Q10 is an enzyme that is present in nearly all cells of the body. It is found in high concentrations in the heart, liver, kidney, and pancreas. Co-Q10 is fat soluble and is much like a vitamin. In the body it works as an antioxidant, Co-Q10 is also a cofactor in many metabolic (energy) pathways, Co-Q10 functions also in the production of the energy molecule ATM, and it is a membrane stabilizer.

Co-Q10 has been used with some success in congestive heart failure. It is also very helpful in reducing the side effects of statin drugs. However this recent study in the German Journal IUBMB found that Co-Q10 could also lower LDL (the bad cholesterol) in healthy male subjects.

What is important to note is the ubiquinol form of Co-Q10 was used in the study. This is the form we recommend everyone use due to its enhanced absorbability. In the study the men saw on average a 12.5% reduction in the LDL cholesterol.

Co-Q10 especially in its ubiquinol form is an approach the health that any man should consider to keep their heart and blood cholesterol healthy.
