Eating at the mall can be difficult, if you find yourself in this situation you can look to save calories by eating these dishes.
Chinese Food:
- Steamed rice
- Mixed vegetables
- Hot and sour soup
- Avoid deep fried entrees
Italian Food:
- Tomato based sauces
- Vegetable soups
- Caesar salad (dressing on the side)
Food to Avoid:
- Any cream sauces
- Cream soups
- Large pizza slices
Eating in Mexican Restaurants and Buffets:
- Get sour cream on side
- Guacamole on side
- Substitute salsa for above
- Request soft tacos over hard shell
- Avoid or limit nachos especially with cheese
Eating at Buffet
- Steamed and baked vegetable dishes
- Spinach and green salads (Watch the dressing)
- Baked potatoes
- Baked chicken and fish
- Rice pilaf
Eating on the road can be particularly challenging. Stopping at a grocery store to purchase a salad can be an easy option as many now have salad bars. I have had patients do well taking a small cooler with snacks in it on the road. The other thing that I use when traveling is the Metagenics UltraMeal Bar. These bars have a great flavor and make a nice meal replacement. I also travel with them on the plane and use them as my only snack while flying.
