The article by Dr. Wright discusses how patients are driving the doctors to prescribe drugs that doctors often don’t think they need. While this isn’t new as even years ago people felt they needed antibiotics for every sore throat. However today the drugs are being marketed directly to the patient.
Many doctors aren’t as convinced that the newest and shiniest drug is the best solution. Besides the high cost of the newer drugs there is the fact that they haven’t had a long term history of use.
Sometimes the older drugs have a much better history of safety and will work just as well.
