Cancer Physicians Attack High Drug Costs
This article, in the New York Times, talks about how some doctors are speaking out against the pharmaceutical companies who are charging sometimes as much as 100,000 a year from certain cancer medications. I particularly like this quote about the cost, “astronomical, unsustainable and perhaps even immoral” which I think sums up the problem.
Profits on some of these medications are running into the billions of dollars a year. If we are going to improve our health care system we can’t with medications that are going to bankrupt the families that are paying for them. And think of your insurance costs? How much does it cost to subsidize these astronomical costs?
In the meantime how many people forgo therapy just because they just can’t afford it?
