Reading the latest issue of Life Extension Magazine the other day, I found this article on the FDA’s findings that Diamond Foods, Inc., in displaying scientific data on their website had violated FDA rules. It is fascinating that the FDA classified the Diamond Foods, Inc. walnuts as drugs due to the unauthorized posting of health claims on Diamond Foods, Inc. website. These claims by Diamond Foods, Inc. caused the walnuts to be subject to seizure or injunction.
The article is fascinating in that it demonstrates how those of us in the natural health business have to sometimes dance around these regulations to try to bring sound, helpful information to you without getting on the bad side of the FDA.
The most ironic point in the article from Life Extension was that the FDA allows Frito-Lay to make health claims on potato chips as being heart healthy. Please read the article as it will leave you shaking your head and wondering where we are as a society.
