The Importance Of Preventing Iron Deficiency


Iron deficiency is a common problem among pregnant women and infants in most developing countries. The deficiency is associated to poorer cognitive, motor, and social-emotional outcomes. Betsy Lozoff, MD, and colleagues from the University of Michigan, OaklandUniversity, and Instituto de Atención Pediátrica, Costa Rica, completed a 25-year study about the long term effects of iron deficiency on infants, as well as the success rate of iron therapy.
