L-Theanine, Stress Buster

Stress is a healthy part of life as long as it is not too much stress and the person has good coping skills to deal with life’s minor stressors. Too much stress is unhealthy and can cause a lot of major issues if the stress is left untreated for too long. To help people with an inability to cope with their stress or are suffering from too much stress are often given an amino acid called l-theanine.

The amino acid often referred to as l-theanine relieves many health issues that are caused by stress. The l-theanine stress is often found in black tea and green tea, which is most likely the reason many people will seek a cup of tea when they are feeling a little too stressed. Interestingly enough the l-theanine is considered the ingredient that give green tea its distinct flavor.

Unfortunately, there have been little scientific research done to prove the health benefits of l-theanine and its ability to reduce stress, but many that seek natural remedies really believe in the power of the l-theanine stress. It is for this reason offered as an over the counter supplement.

The people that believe in the benefits of l-theanine on stress believe that it will help to reduce the feelings of stress and anxiety. Remember prolonged periods of stress and anxiety can cause other health problems that are very serious and even life threatening. People that face stress and anxiety often have issues with taking prescribed medication to relieve their anxiety and look for the more natural way to treat their condition, but it is very important to inform your doctor and/or your mental health consultant.

The way that l-theanine is believed to work is by block the “binding of I-glutamic acid to glutamate receptors in the brain.” (Ray Sahelian, MD, L-Theanine Supplement for Stress, Anxiety, and Sleep, Benefit and Side Effects) In fact some doctors have noticed that people taking this supplement have more alpha-brain waves, which has been known as a sign of the brains relaxation.

Most often people that are seeking the relaxing powers of l-theanine will ingest it by drinking the tea that is said to have ample amount of l-theanine in it. The content of the l-theanine varies between teas and supplements. It is for this reason that you should look at the content levels on the labels of products and teas before you buy them.
