Manuka Honey: What You Do Not Know

Manuka honey warning

Manuka honey is produced in both Australia and New Zealand. The honey is produced from the nectar of the Manuka tree. It is approved by the FDA in helping to manage wounds and bedsores.

Manuka honey has been shown to have antibiotic effects. This is why it is effective in wound management. However, his come to my attention that some people use it on a day-to-day basis in their tea or as a sweetener. Remember this product does have antibiotic effects, and day-to-day use could lead to the same problems as chronic antibiotic use. It certainly could act the same as an antibiotic and destroy the normal intestinal bacteria.

So while Manuka honey certainly has some therapeutic effects. I cannot recommend it for use as a day-to-day honey. If you have been using it this way you should discontinue your use. You should also start taking probiotics to repopulate your: with healthy bacteria.
