USDA Issues Guidelines for Smart Snacks

“Smart Snacks” To Replace Junk Food In Schools, USDA


Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that junk foods like candies and potato chips shall be replaced by USDA with healthier snack alternatives such as granola bars and baked chips  in accordance to USDA’s new “Smart Snacks in School” nutrition standards. Secretary Tom Vilsack believes that the health and well-being of the children are of utmost importance. The “Smart Snacks in School” nutrition standards will be published later this week in the Federal Register. The USDA thanked the nearly 250,000 comments that helped in the creation of the new standards.
