A new study suggests that watermelon juice may help relieve the soreness of muscles after exercise. Encarna Aguayo and colleagues refers to the previous studies done on the antioxidant properties of watermelon juice and its potential in increasing muscle protein whilst enhancing athletic performance. But according to the scientists, they have yet to determine the efficacy of watermelon juice drinks enriched with L-citrulline. The researchers tested this in 3 ways; the purely natural watermelon juice, watermelon juice enriched with L-citrulline and a control drink containing no L-citrulline. Results showed that both the natural juice and the enriched one are effective in relieving post-exercise muscle soreness.
