Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia, is a natural antiseptic. This unique essential oil comes from the tropical northeastern New South Wales Australia. The leaves of the tree that supply tea tree oil cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Medical journals from Australia and Britain commended tea tree oil as both powerful and safe. During World War II, the Australian military issued tea tree oil in the first-aid kits of soldiers because of its utility as an antiseptic. Tea tree oil is used in numerous first aid and personal care products. Tea tree oil can be used to disinfect wounds and promote healing. Tea tree oil can be helpful for clearing up dandruff, lice and seborrhea when added to shampoo. Tea tree oil is also used for the healing of fungal nail infections, athlete's foot, rashes and burning feet. When applied locally or used in a bath, tea tree oil can alleviate discomfort of achy muscles or joint pain. Tea tree oil is potent and must be used cautiously, especially with people with sensitive skin. Often a dilute solution is recommended for topical applications.
