False Unicorn
False Unicorn is used medicinally for the root and rhizomes. The active constituents of False Unicorn are steriod saponins, particularly algycone diosgenin. The mixture of these saponins is referred to as chamaelirin.
False Unicorn is grown in the Mississippi Delta region. It has a bitter taste. Other common names are Blazing Star, Starwort, Helonias Root, and Fairywand.
