DLPA
DL-Phenylalanine, or DLPA, is a racemic combination of 50% D-Phenylalanine and 50% L-Phenylalanine. D-Phenylalanine is the enantiomer of L-Phenylalanine. L-Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid whereas D-Phenylalanine is a nonprotein amino acid - meaning it cannot participate in protein biosynthesis.
L-Phenylalanine is involved in the synthesis of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine. D-Phenylalanine is involved in the blockage of enkephalin degradation by the enzyme carboxypeptidase A.
