Fo Ti

Fo-Ti (Polygonum multiflorum) is a native of China, although it can now be found in Japan and Taiwan. The rhizome of this herb can be used, either raw or processed. Fo-Ti contains the anthraquinone derivatives, chrysophanol and emodin, along with a small amount of rhein. Studies have shown that Fo-Ti root is effective as lowering cholesterol and decreasing the hardening of arteries. Fo-Ti has also been used as a mild laxative.
