Squawvine (Mitchella repens) is a member of the Rubiacea family. The above ground parts can be used medicinally. Squawvine contains resin, wax, mucilages, dextrin, alkaloids, saponins, glycosides, and tannins. It has been used for anxiety, amenorrhea, diarrhea, edema, excessive and/or painful menstruation, varicose veins, insomnia, kidneys, liver, to reduce mucous membranes, and as an astringent.
