It contains digitalis-like cardenolide glycosides. Pleurisy Root has a nutty and bitter taste and faint odor. Pleurisy Root has been an effective treatment for a number of respiratory disorders due to its ability to reduce inflammation, relieve spasms in the airways, promote perspiration, and help clear the air passages of secretions. In the treatment of uterine disorders, it is believed to have effects similar to the hormone estrogen.
