Sunflower Seed Oil
Sunflower Seed oil (Helianthus annuus) is indigenous to central and estern North America although it is cultivated worldwide. It is a member of the Asteraceae/Compositae family. Sunflower seed oil is high in linoleic acid and is used as a source of polyunsaturated fat in the diet. Orally, sunflower seed oil is used for constipation and as a lubricant. Topically, it is used as a massage oil, for weak effects on wound healing, psoriasis, and arthritis. It can also be used as a cooking oil.
Food Sources Sunflower seed oil appers to be well tolerated. However, those sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae family should be cautious. Other family members include ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and other herbs.
