Jujube (Zyzyphus jujuba) can be found in southern Europe, Africa, Middle East, and the Far East. The fruit is the medicinal part. The Jujube berry is classed with raisins, dates, figs, and can be eaten fresh or dried.The fruit is sweet and gummy.
Jujube contains fruit acids, sugars, hydroxycoumarins, triterpenes, peptide alkaloids, isoquinoline alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, mucilage, and triterpene saponins. Jujube is emoliient and has demonstrated anti-allergenic, sedative and hypotensive effects. Jujube has been used for improving muscle strength, a lack of appetite, for dry and irritated skin, fatigue, diarrhea, wounds, inflammation, ulcers, and fever. In addition, jujube has been used in topical formulations for anti-inflammation, antiwrinkle, moisturizer, and sunburn relief.
