Osha Root

Osha (Ligusticum porteri) is a member of the Apiaceae/Umbelliferae family. The root is the applicable part of osha. It contains the compound ligustilide which may have antimicrobial and antiviral activities. Osha is a hard plant to cultivate but it can be found at higher elevations in the western United States. It has a strong celery-like odor. Osha has been used for broncitis, cough, sore throat, the common cold, influenza, and indigestion.
