Withania Somnifera is the scientific name for Ashwagandha, a member of the Solanaceae family. Ashwagandha is native to India, a plant with small yellow-orange flowers. The whole plant, the bark, roots, leaves, and seed can be used medicinally. The plant contains alkaloids withanine and somniferine, which are used to treat nervous disorders and intestinal infections. Ashwagandha is a remedy also used for rheumatism, as a tonic, and to increase stamina and vigor.
