Terpene Lactones
Terpene Lactones is one of two active constituents found in ginkgo biloba. The terpene lactones found in ginkgo biloba are ginkgolides and bilobalide. Ginkgolide can be broken down into three forms, A, B, and C. Terpene Lactones are associted with increased circulation to the brain and other parts of the body and may exert a protection action of the nerve cells. Other activities of terpene lactones include neuroprotection, improvement of choline (a neurotransmitter) uptake in brain synapses and inhibition of platelet activating factor (which reduces the tendency of the blood to clot).
