L-theanine is a non-protein amino acid that is mainly found from Camellia sinesis, a green tea plant. L-theanine is the predominant amino acid in green tea. It is considered the main componenet responsible for the taste of green tea. L-theanine is invovled in the production of the neurotransmitter, GABA. L-theanine has demonstrated mood-modulating effects. It is being reserached as an anti-cancer agent.
