Butterbur contains several active constituents that can be found in the leaves, rhizomes, and roots. The active extracts are sesquiterpene compounds, petasin, and isopetasin. The scientific name of Butterbur is Petasites hybridus.

Butterbur is used for pain, stomach upset, gastric ulcers, headaches (including migraine headaches), chronic cough, chills, anxiety, allergic rhinitis, and irritable bladder and urinary tract spasms.
