Black Cohosh

Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) is a small plant native to the US and Canada. Black cohosh rhizome and root are the medicinal part of the plant. Black cohosh is also known as snake root and squaw root. Active ingredients in black cohosh are the triterpene glycosides: acetin, cimifugaside, and 27-deoxyactein. Black cohosh also contains phytosterin, isoferulic acid, fukinolic acid, caffeic acid, salicylic acid, sugars, tannins, and long-chain fatty acids.
