Willow Bark

Willow bark (Salix alba) is a member of the Salicaceae family. Willow bark constituents include flavonoids, tannins, and salicylates. The actions demonstrated by willow bark include anti-inflammatory and antipyretic. It also increases blood clotting time. The salicylate constituent is attributed with these characteristics. Willow bark has been used for feverish colds, infections, headaches, pain caused by inflammation, muscle and joint aches, and respiratory tract mucous membrane inflammation.
