Organic Elder Flower
Elder Flower (Sambucus nigra) is a member of the Adoxaxeae/Sambucaceae or Caprifoliaceae family. Elder is found throughout most of Europe. The plant is a tree or bush with strongly perfumed, yellowish-white flowers and black-violet berries. The bark, leaves, berries, and roots are all considered medicinal. Elder Flower is taken for a variety of upper respiratory ailments, such as broncitis and cough. Elder soothes coughs, mucous membranes, and inflammation by increasing bronchial secretions. It also noticeably increases sweating. Elderflower constituents may also have diuretic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and laxative effects. Elder is most often found in teas and cough/cold remedies.
