Stone root (Collinsonia canadensis) is a member of the Lamiaceae family. It is also known as Horse balm, Knob grass, Knobweed, Rich weed, and Hardback. Stone root is found in North America from Canada to the Carolinas as well as in central Europe. The rhizome and root of the plant can be used for medicinal purposes.
Stone root volatile oil, caffeic derivatives including rosmaric acid, saponins, tannin, mucliage, and resin. The volatile oil consists of caryophyllene, germacrene D, limonene, alpha- and beta-pinenes.
Stone root has been used for gastrointestinal disorders, kidney stones, and bladder inflammation. In homeopathic remedies, stone root has been used for hemorrhoids and constipation.
