SDG lignans
Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside, or SDG lignans are phytoestrogen antioxidants composed of two cinnamic acid residues. Flax contains many time more lignans than any other source, including barley, oats and millet. As antioxidants, SDG lignans protect against damaging hydroxlyl ions. SDG lignans are metabolized by intestinal bacteria into enterolactone and enterodiol. In-vitro research indicates that enterolactone and enterodiol support healthy cell restoration by their effects on estrogen receptors and interaction with circulating hormones. SDG lignans also enhance immune system functioning.
