Threonine

Threonine (L-threonine) is a large, neutral amino acid. It is the precursor to glycine. Glycine is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the spinal cord; but glycine poorly penetrates the central nervous system. Threonine has better penetration and can boost glycine levels in the spinal cord. These characteristics have led to research of threonine as a potential treatment for spasticity and amyotrophic laterol sclerosis (ALS).
