Bromelain is a general name for proteolytic enzymes that can be found in the stem and fruit of pineapple. The scientific name is Ananas comosus (pineapple). Bromelain also contains an acid phosphatase, a peroxidase, calcium, and several protease inhibitors. Bromelain aids the digestive system as well as acts as an anti-inflammatory.
