Secale Cornutum, Ergot, is a member of the Clavicipitaceae family. Ergot is a fungus that typically grows on rye although it can be found in smaller quantities on other grasses. Ergot contains ergot alkaloids as well as lysergic acid, ergocristine, ergotamine, ergonovine, histamine, tyramine, acetycholine, and more. The ergot alkaloids have numerous pharmacological actions.
