Ipecac (psychotria ipecacuanha) is a member of the Rubiaceae family. Ipecac comes from the sparser woods of Brazil and is cultivated in India. Ipecac contains alkaloids, emetine, and cephaeline. It is typically used in homeopathic remedies. Ipecac is used for expectorant activity. Ipecac is also used as an appetite stimulant.
