Physostigma Venenosum
Physostigma Venenosum is the scientific name for Calabar bean. It is a member of the Fabaceae/Leguminosae family. Calabar bean can be found in western Asia and is also cultivated in India and parts of South America. The seeds of the calabar bean can be used for medicinal purposes. Calabar bean consists of physostigmine and other alkaloids, starch, fatty oils, and proteic substances. Calabar bean has been used for the gastrointestinal tract. It also causes the pupils to contract, resulting in less pressure in the eye.
