Kelp, or Laminaria (hyperborea) is a seaweed found on the North Atlantic coast. Dried kelp is a great source of iodine and has been used since the 19th Century. The stemlike part of the thallus is used medicinally. Kelp is greenish-brown to reddish color. Kelp formulations are often used to help regulate thyroid function.
