soursop (graviola)
Sour Sop, or graviola, is a member of the Annonaceae family. It is known scientifically as Annona muricata. The fruit, seeds, leaves, and bark can all be used in medicinal formulas. Many active constituents have been found in graviola, acetogenins being the most important class of chemicals. Accordingly, over 220 types of acetogenins have been found in graviola. Graviola has been used for cough, as an antibiotic, and for sedative adn antiparasitic activity.
