Borage Oil

Borage (Borago officinalis) oil comes from the borage plant. The leaf of the borage plant is also used medicinally. Borage oil has large concentrations of GLA. Borage oil can contain hepatotoxic alkaloids. Good quality borage oils are certified UPA free meaning the alkaloids have been removed.

Borage oils GLA is converted to DGLA which is a precursor to prostaglandins. As a result borage oil is used to help support healthy joints.

Borage leaf and flowers are high in tannins and are used in some herbal preparations.
