Sour Cherry (Prunus cerasus) is a member of the Rosaceae family.The fruit and stem of sour cherry can be used medicinally. Sour cherry fruit contain vitamin A, vitamin C, alpha-linolenic acid, and traces of vitamin E, beta-carotene, and folacin thiamine. Antioxidants such as kaempferol and quercetin can also be found. The stem of sour cherry contains an isoflavone constituent, prunetin 5-O-beta-D-glycopyranoside. Sour cherry has demonstrated anti-inflammatory activities. It has traditionally been used to cause diuresis and to facilitate digestion. In food, sour cherries are eaten and used for flavoring.
