Saussurea Root

Saussurea costus is the scientific name for Costus. This plant is indigenous to China and India. The root of the plant is used in medicinal formulas. It contains volatile oil, resins, polysaccharides, lignans, sesquiterpenes, and steroids. Costus has been used in Chinese and Indian remedies for a variety of ailments such as gastric complaints, cough, as a stimulant, and or teh loss of appetite.
