Fig (Ficus carica) is a member of the Moraceae family. The fruit and the tree sap of fig can be used for medicinal purposes. Fig trees are cultivated and grow wild in subtropical regions around the world. Fig contains fruit acids (citric acid and malic acid), mucilages, pectin, vitamin B and C, monosaccharides, and furanocoumarins. At the time, there is no much known about the pharmacological effects of fig. It is commonly used as a laxative.
