Sugar

Sugar refers to sucrose, which is commonly added to beverages and food to alter the properties and taste. Many sugar replacements are now available as well. Commerical sugar typically comes from sugar cane or sugar beet.

Sugar, or sucrose, can be found in several different forms. Sugar can also be found naturally in fruits and vegetables. Scientifically speaking, sugar refers to monosaccharides and disaccharides. Monosaccharides are called simple sugars and store energy which cells can use and consume. Sugar is also linked to many ailments of the body such as diabetes, obesity, and tooth decay.
