IP-6

IP-6 (Inositol hexaphosphate) is a component of most cereal grains and seeds. It is responsible for storing approximately 80% of the total phosphate in cereals and legumes. IP-6 exists in conjunction to plant fiber and is a rich source of myo-inositol in the diet. IP-6 has the ability to chelate multivalent metal ions (such as zinc, calcium, and iron) forming insoluble salts in the gastrointestinal tract and decreasing mineral absorbability. This activity may give IP-6 the ability to lower serum cholesterol and triglycerides levels. IP-6 has also demonstrated natural antioxidant properties and the ability to enhance the immune system.
