Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet Almond (Prunus amygdalus dulcis) is a member of the Rosaceae family. Sweet Almond oil is prepared by the pressing the kernels of sweet almond and bitter almond. The effects of sweet almond oil are due to the presence of many triglycerides (largely triolein and dioleolinolein) and fatty acids (oleic, linoleic, palmitic, stearic, lauric, myristic and palmitoleic acids). Sweet Almond oil is used as a mild laxative and as a remedy for various ailments of the spleen, bladder, uterus, and mouth. It is also a popular aromatherapy agent. Topically, sweet almond oil soothes mucous membranes, chapped skin, and displays weak antibacterial abilities.
