Ipriflavone (7-isopropoxyisoflavone) is a synthetic derivative of the plant isoflavone, genistin. Ipriflavone can also be manufactured from daidzein, a compound from soy. Preliminary evidence exists that suggest ipriflavone prevents bone density loss without suppressing the rate of bone formation. Although it is sometimes classified as a phytoestrogen, ipriflavone has no direct estrogenic activity but it might potential the effects estrogen on bone, increase uterotropic activity in estrogen, and stimulate estrogen-induced calcitonin secretion in postmenopausal women.
