Fringe Tree
Fringetree is a member of the Oleaceae family and known scientifically as Chionanthus virginicus. The dried root or tree bark is used medicinally. Fringetree grows in the central and southern United States as well as eastern Asia. Fringetree is odorless and bitter.
Fringetree contains saponins and lignane glycosides such as phillyrin (chioanthine). Fringetree has been used for diuretic and tonic effects although this has yet to be proven.
