In addition, research shows that silicon-deficient diets lead to depressed collagen synthesis and abnormal ligament, tendon, and bone integrity. Specifically, silicon is required by the enzyme, prolyhydroxylase, which is involved in collagen synthesis in bone, cartilage, and other connective tissues.
