Amni Candistat, provided by Douglas Laboratories, is a
well-tolerated, natural dietary supplement of controlled-release
caprylic acid (octanoic acid) complex, Pau D’Arco herb, and
other synergistic ingredients. Each tablet provides 93 mg of a
calcium-magnesium caprylate complex, equivalent to 70 mg of
caprylic acid. Potassium-buffered sorbic acid is added as a
natural stabilizer. Candistat is free of yeast, corn, wheat,
sugars, and artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
In healthy people, the intestinal microflora consists of
balanced amounts of symbiotic microorganisms, providing
nutritional benefits to the host. This balance depends on our
dietary habits and can easily be disturbed by unhealthy diets
or drugs, such as antibiotics and oral contraceptives. Under
these conditions, opportunistic pathogenic microorganisms,
such as the fungus Candida albicans, can colonize the small
and large intestine.
Caprylic acid, commonly found in foods (coconut oil, milk
fat, etc.), is a natural dietary fatty acid which helps maintain
a normal intestinal microflora. Studies show that dietary
caprylic acid helps inhibit the growth of Candida albicans
and other opportunistic fungi in both the small and large
intestine. At the same time, caprylic acid does not adversely
affect the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria.
Candistat provides caprylic acid as a calcium-magnesiumcaprylate
complex. This complex is well tolerated and
provides for controlled release of caprylic acid throughout
the small and large intestine. As synergistic herbal
ingredients, pure Pau D’Arco (Taheebo) from Argentina is
added in a base of horseradish and clove concentrates.
Candistat tablets may be a useful dietary supplement for those
who wish to support a normal microecology of the intestinal
microflora. Candistat is especially appropriate for individuals
who can not tolerate higher levels of caprylate complex.
Horseradish, clove extract, calcium phosphate, cellulose,
magnesium oxide, vegetable mono- and di-glycerides, stearic acid, silicon
dioxide, and magnesium stearate.
One to three tablets three times daily on an empty stomach at
least one hour before meals, or as directed by a physician.

No significant adverse side effects have been reported. At high
intakes, some users may experience flu-like symptoms or fatigue,
which are signs of possible yeast die-off. These symptoms usually
disappear within the first 2 to 5 days of Candistat use.
